Wonderful Weekend

Had another great visit with our friends. It’s really nice to spend time together in person again. We also got to see how much our old town has changed since we left.

Gallery opening

We went to a gallery opening with the SCA. They had a nice reception and we met some new people. Afterwards, we had a nice party tray dinner at a nearby restaurant.

Day Out

Went on a walking tour downtown for Hubby’s birthday. Walked past this gentleman’s club, didn’t go in. Walked past Mr. Beef, which is supposed to be the restaurant in the tv show The Bear. A very long line of people waiting to get in. Went to the Green Door Tavern next to it.

Korean Art Gallery

Went on a curator led tour of the new Korean Art Gallery at the AIC. It was a nice private tour with loads of history and personal anecdotes.

Hot Chocolate Run

On the same day as the NYC marathon, Chicago had the Hot Chocolate Run, a 5k, 10k and 15k race. Hubby and I volunteered for it. We got up at 4:30am to get downtown and get our gear. Our job was at the finish line handing out energy drinks. It was a very well run operation. The only downside was about half the runners that we came across. Half of the 40,000 people coming by our table were nice people seemingly of good character who took one can each. Then there was the other half who demanded one of each flavor. They hoarded them in their arms, bags, whatever they could find to carry them with, having no regard for common decency or consideration for others. They were so consumed with their own greed that we ran out of cans with 2 more hours of runners yet to come through. Just shameful!!

Big Day

Big day today. Started out digging holes and planting bulbs in the neighborhood park. Then went to the neighborhood pie contest and each brought a piece home. Later went to an estate sale in a warehouse in the stockyards. Then went to the Bronzeville Winery for a flight and a cheeseboard. Too bad it wasn’t better. Probably won’t go back.
