Gil and I, out for our afternoon walk on a gorgeous 50 degree(F)
day, stopped by the post office to mail a letter to Japan. Knowing that the stamp would be 98 cents, I put a dollar in my pocket and away we went. In the post office, I ordered up the stamp and laid my envelope on the counter and post master Bob said, "that'll be $1.05." "Aaahhh! I only brought a dollar, I'll have to come back again later", I tell Bob. "Don't worry about it", he says, affixing the stamp and putting it in the bin. What a nice guy!!
Later I took the nickel down and gave it to Bob, who seemed surprised and said I didn't need to, but thanked me profusely.
Expat mom leaves Japan after nearly 4 yrs. to begin a new adventure living in New Jersey, then moves to NYC 7 yrs later. But then moves to Chicago.

Sweater and Treats
Finally getting around to showing you the sweater that I made for Gil. I gave it to
him for a Christmas present. I may try it again and make it longer this time. After I felted it, it seems too short. He is modeling it with a turtleneck underneath, in preparation for a trip out in the snow. Also thought I'd include the batch of treats that I made for him this week. Whole wheat and peanut butter! Yummy!!

Snow!!
My first real, winter snow in about 5 yrs! I was so excited! Couldn't wait to get my shovel and get out there in it. Of course the driveway is gravel so there's no shoveling there, but I did some work on the patio. Gil liked it too. But not as much as he did the last time he was in some snow. Of course he was just a baby then!

Tumble
Got back to the walking routine with a friend after the holidays. Bundled up in lined workout gear, hat, gloves etc... and started for a nice walk to the lake and back. The day was cold but sunny and clear. At the turn around point I slipped off the edge of the road and went down. Had my hands in my pockets and landed hard on knee and elbow. Popped up and walked back under my own steam. Still a little sore, especially on the end of the elbow, but almost back to normal. Now I just have to patch the hole in my pants!
Edgewater
Took a little trip over to the huge Japanese market and restaurants in Edgewater. Stocked up on some Japanese supplies and had lunch. I had zaru soba, my favorite Japanese dish. After that we stopped by Liberty State Park and took a look at the beautiful skyline of New York and the Statue of Liberty. The weather was beautiful and we had a great day.
I'm Back
Sorry I haven't posted in such a long time. I got a new computer for Christmas and wanted to wait until I went to the workshop before I started putting photos on it. The above photo is from a pre-Christmas trip we took to Princeton. There we found this shop that won the cupcake wars on food network. We got one and was very tasty. Christmas was quiet and relaxing. Here is Gil opening a present. It was so nice to have the 5 of us together again.
