Long Weekend

Happy Memorial Day! The weather has not been very cooperative here. Saturday was sunny but chilly. We rode our bikes downtown then went to the lake for a picnic. (Pictures below.) Sunday and Monday were rainy, cloudy and chilly.

 

Stuart IA

After a long day of driving (Denver, through Nebraska and in to Iowa), we finally stopped for the day in Stuart Iowa. It’s a cute little town, west of Des Moines. Got a great deal on a hotel with clean rooms. The dinner wasn’t fabulous but the people were friendly. Stuart’s big claim to fame seems to be that the bank in town, was the last bank to be robbed by Bonnie and Clyde before they were killed in Louisiana. The building hasn’t been a bank for a long while but they have a sign on the old building.

 

Denver

A one night stop in Denver. We visited with Winston the cat and Granny. It had been quite some time since she saw her only grandson in person!

 

Taos

Next destination was Taos, a five and a half hour drive.

Cute hotel, nice town.

 

Canyon de Chelly

Move over Grand Canyon, there’s a better canyon in town!

 

Navajo National Monument

On our way to the next stop, we went to the Navajo National Monument. We drove through some incredible scenery one of which is pictured below , the elephant feet rock formation.

After leaving the Hoover Dam we continued on the days destination, The Grand Canyon.

It was grand alright!
