We went to a few sights during the Open House NYC weekend.
First stop was City Hall
Designed in the Federal style, it was completed in 1812.
Life size bronze statue of George Washington
The rotunda featuring original marble flooring and cast iron handrails.
In the Governor's room is the City Hall portrait collection.
The crotch work on many of the full body paintings is a bit disturbing.
Below is the City Council Chamber used for public meetings and ceremonial events.
The ceiling
Outside was a protest about 'menstrual hygiene is a right not a privilege'.
I agree. They should be tax free.
Next stop, Hall of Records at Surrogate's Courthouse.
This is a most beautiful building.
Designed in the Beaux Arts style, the exterior is granite.
There is a three-story interior courtyard, with a marble double staircase leading to colonnaded balconies on the upper stories.
It's an excellent example of a Beaux Arts interior.
The Mosaic Ceiling was very impressive.
We also went into the Federal Hall National Memorial.
This one was a bit of a dud.
The original structure hosted the United States' first congress and was the place where George Washington was sworn in as the first President. It was demolished in 1812.
The current building was completed in 1842.
Afterwards we met up with the kids for a drink downtown.
Later enjoyed a tour through The Center for Book Arts.
